VoYS Workshop at University Glasgow, 18th November 2011
The workshop, held on 18th November 2011 in Glasgow for the first time and hosted by the University of Glasgow, was heavily over-subscribed with stiff competition for the 45 places.
Our panellists of scientists, journalists, press officers and VoYS representatives gave great insights into their fields of work, responding to scientists’ concerns about speaking to the media and giving participants tips on how to get involved in public debates about science. The day was a great success, with productive group work and many more questions than time could allow. Participants came away from the workshop keen to join the VoYS network and engage with the public.
Comments from the participants:
“Great advice on how to respond and deal with various media queries.”
“Really interesting to hear journalists’ point of view and see things from their perspective.”
“Really like the format of the workshop. Lots of chances to ask questions and share experiences which I found helpful and interesting.”
“All excellent contributors."
"This was an excellent opportunity to hear senior scientists share their opinions on the media"
