The planned direct action against the GM wheat experiment at Rothamsted did not happen on Sunday 27th May. The GM wheat trial is ongoing.

As a former research scientist I know the importance of the research work I did in transport studies. I see the results of it on the roads everyday making peoples journeys easier. Without funding the work I did wouldn't have happened we need to protect vital research in the UK.

There are many reasons to worry about the long term consequences of using GM crops, but destroying research is a bad as burning books: cowardly vandalism. Open minds and advancing knowledge are the keys to human improvement. History is clear that attempts to halt progress are doomed: better to advance our knowledge and far better to do so independently than with commercial interest in the driving seat.
