The Don't Destroy Research petition is now closed, many thanks to everyone who signed it. Below is the list of signatories and their comments. You can also see a collection of public support for the Rothamsted researchers' appeal here.
The planned direct action against the GM wheat experiment at Rothamsted did not happen on Sunday 27th May. The GM wheat trial is ongoing.

This is not the work of mad Dr Frankensteins. It is the work of hardworking scientists with a positive vision of the future. Don't perform a senseless act of violence to destroy something that is potentially of immense value.
Jonathan Syer, Research Scientist
Anyone who would destroy research just doesn't get the point of it. Entirely selfish to even suggest such a move.
I am signing on behalf of myself.

If there is any harm from these organisms it will only be found via rigorous scientific study, studies that prove impossible when groups of luddites burn experiments in progress.
This needs to be dealt with or we will be stuck in limbo, and the UK will be a hostile environment for the burgeoning GMO industry, and we will lose both the opportunities for research and development by UK industries, and the use of useful products from foreign companies.
Tony Vincent, Company Director
Here's hoping that the activists have an outbreak of rationality and you can get some decent results from your experiment. Good Luck !

Research is vital for the development of mankind's future. Scientifically illiterate people must not be allowed to stand in the way of legitimate research.

It's absolutely deplorable that the protesters are shunning open, rational discourse in favour of bullish action. It truly leads me to question their motives, are they genuinely in it for the public good or are they just vandals which are attempting to excuse themselves with their zealotry?
Steven Kiddle, Research Scientist
Instead of active engagement these protestors just want to waste tax-payers money (research is tax-payer funded), people in America have been planting and eating GM for years with no ill effects, and when the science is understood there is little reason to believe that harm can be caused unless intended.
